Match Report
Roedean School Girls-U14A vs  UKSA Girls Schools Hockey Tournament
On: Tuesday, 07 Nov 2023
Venue: Away

The girls were excited for another tournament and looked good from the start. Sackville was the first match and we put them to the sword with very good hockey being played and winning 2-0. Caterham was up next and we backed ourselves after an impressive first game performance. The CM from Caterham dominated and they managed to score down the baseline too many times and defenders not sticking with their players, leaving us with a 5-0 loss to come back from. The third match was against a very physical Downsend, but we fronted up and took the game to them and outclassed them to win 2-0. Last game of the pool was crucial to get through to the semis and it was against Croydon High. 2 goals early doors meant it was a long way back but our defense held firm, finishing the game 2-1 winners. We finished second and setup a match against Kent College who finished top of Pool A. We played our best hockey in the semi and went 1-0 up early through and cracking Sorrel strike from the right. Kent came back to make it 1-1, followed quickly by an event better strike by Sorrel, same place but finished with a massive shot into the roof of the net past the keeper. With just over a minute to go, the ball was bundled into the goal by Kent and we just couldn't keep it out. We had two PC's at the end and narrowly missed the goal with the final attempt of the match. This meant 2-2 and to shuffles we go. Both sides scored their first, Poppy with a superbly taken shuffle. Both 2nd chances were take by both teams, Flo smashing it past their keeper on her reverse. We just missed our final final, going tantalizingly close which meant Kent College had to score to win and they did so with a calm finish past Lily, who had a brilliant day out in goal. We ended 3rd/4th and finishing on a very good performance against a strong Kent College.
